I called the day before at 3:30 and was told they don't have any walk-in slots available so I booked an appointment for the next day at 5:20. That day I received a text confirming my appt at 5:20. Then I received this text: "Cookie Cutters in Gahanna is offering $3 off all Kidscuts for the next 10 days. Book online or with our Cookie Cutters App or call 614-428-9999" We arrived on time for our appt. but was told it was for 5:30 and they have 2 walk-ins ahead of us. Finally at 5:45 our haircut began. Then we were told we couldn't us the coupon bc we didn't book through the app. I showed them it also says to call and gives the phone number to which I was told that must have been a mistake. Why have appts when you take walk ins over the customer with an appt? Why tell someone you don't have any available bc they had the courtesy to call first? Why send me a coupon then refuse to honor it or offer an alternative? Why was I lied to about my "correct appt time" to explain why I should have a 25 min wait?

My 3 year old needed just the top of his hair trimmed. Not the sides. He was in the chair for less than 5 minutes. Stylist did a great job on the hair but the cutting process seemed extremely rushed and I felt like she wanted to just be done quickly. When we were finished she asked if I had any coupons. I said no. She then charged me $16.95 which I understand is the published “haircut” price but that was hardly enough work to justify charging that much for a 3 year old trim! I assumed they would give me a lower rate since we barely had any hair cut. I still tipped her 20% but was shocked by the charge.

I washed and conditioned my daughters fine hair and took her in for a blow dry and flatiron. 2 hours and $45 later she was done. I explained that I did not think it’d be that much since a Womens shampoo, blow dry and cut is $28. They were charging that much because it took 2 hours. I explained that the reason it took so long was because they did not have the correct products or tools (no blow dryer attachment and a bad flatiron). They were nice enough to refund my money. It appears their business model is built around white, straight hair and white straight hair only. If your child’s hair has any type of curl I would not go. As I was leaving I realized I should’ve known, as there aren’t even any kids of color in pictures around the salon. Although the salon is in gahanna, a very diverse area, they are only equipped to serve part of the population.

This was the first time we were there, and probably the last.

No help by other staff members if a child is crying. It was just a regular salon and nothing special for kids.

I made an appointment for baby's 1st cut. We came in 5 min earlier. Both stylist were busy with other clients. 10 min into our scheduled time we were still waiting. Knowing that appointments should take 20 min per client I didn't want to be late to a class with my child, so I asked how much longer we would need to wait and if it makes sense for us to wait. I was told, that's it's up to me and I could leave. There was not a sign of apology and the hairdresser even made a small talk with another client. The haircut my daughter got was not as I expected from someone who does it every day. She basically just cut straight line in the back and bangs, also just a straight. It made my daughter look like a boy. The place itself is very outdated, chairs are nothing like on a website. Also there are lots of toys for sale laying on lower shelf accessible to a child. And there is a note asking not to play with those toys. I understand that they make extra money from these sales, but when you have to seat there and wait for your appointment with a little kid, it's hard to keep their hands off bright things and it makes experience even more frustrating.

Response from Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I have shared this situation with the salon manager and we are looking in to what went wrong with your appointment and who you encountered while you were there. We do truly focus on customer service and our team of stylists are very concerned about making sure that every customer leaves happy with their haircut and happy with the level of service they received. Clearly this is not what you encountered. Please accept my apologies. Can I possibly offer your family the opportunity to return when you child needs another haircut? The visit would be complimentary and we would arrange for the manager to take care of you. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to make this right so that you can see how things should normally happen. Please email me at: minicuts@cccoh.com Sincerely, Alison Celentano Owner
