Yesterday I went for the first time to get my songs long hair cut at Cookie Cutters at Sawmill locations. When I was asked by Dawn how we would like it cut I told the woman I would like it kept long just shaped up since my son likes his hair long. I thought that would be it but this woman decided to say "in her opinion that this was a girls haircut". I was taken aback because I didn't think it was a big deal for a boy to have long hair. It's 2020 for god sake! She told me she wanted to connect the bangs to make it a more "masculine cut" and I was thinking why do you have to make this gendered? Boys can have long hair and girls can have short hair, it's all about their preference and my sons preference is long. She still kept it long for the cut but she said after "he still will probably get a girl" like that's a problem for me, which it isn't. All of these comments didn't really sink in or bother me until coming home when I was thinking what if my son could understand more of what this woman was saying (he's 2.5 so he can understand a lot but I think he was at least distracted by the show going on) and how that would affect him, making him feel like his feelings/likes aren't valid just because the woman cutting his hair thought differently. I just felt gross and sad that this was done and I won't be returning.

We’ve been bringing our son to Cookie Cutters for about a year and have always been happy. Until our last visit. The stylist was rude and condescending when we asked if she could go shorter. Our son wasn’t acting out during the cut, but it looks like he took scissors to his own hair on top. On top of the rudeness, it’s not a good haircut. After she finished the cut, she was kind enough to provide information on what the clipper numbers refer to on a scale of shortness. My husband and I both agreed we wouldn’t return to Cookie Cutters

I am very sorry and concerned to hear about your experience. I rarely receive a negative comment and would appreciate the opportunity to fix the problem. Can you tell me who your stylist was or your child's name so that I can determine who it was that gave you such a bad experience? We are committed to offering additional training whenever necessary. Our haircuts are guaranteed for 2 weeks and I would also like the opportunity to make this right for you and your child. Please email me at minicuts@cccoh.com. My name is Alison and I am the owner. We truly want to make this right and make you happy. Our customer service is of the utmost importance. I hope to hear from you. Thank you.

We had a bad experience last month but came back after the owner reached out to us to help resolve our concerns. Had a great experience this time with two great boys haircuts.

I was happy with the overall environment (the lady on the phone/who greeted us was SO pleasant!)--I love that my kids could associate getting their haircut with a fun positive environment. However our hair tech (her name was Dawn) was really NOT great with my two year old. I can appreciate that she wanted to do a good job and get it done right, but instead of talking my daughter through what she was going to do, she’d just jerk her head around and it freaked my daughter out. She seemed frustrated and impatient the entire time, and really rushed, despite the fact that (it seemed like) it was a slow morning—only one other kid in the salon. I am usually happy to pay the difference when I choose to go to Cookie Cutters vs Great Clips assuming that the tech tries to help my two year old feel at ease, not just focusing on perfectionism (bc lets be honest, she’s two and her hair’s a little crazy all the time anyways!). So that was an off putting experience and makes me feel like I might as well just try Great Clips and bring my own lollipop reward at the end.
